Mucho Mas Media has announced a release date of April 12th for its latest film THE LONG GAME and that Mexican American boxing champ Saul “Canelo” Alvarez joins the team as Executive Producer.
Directed by Julio Quintana and starring Jay Hernandez (Magnum PI), Dennis Quaid (Lawmen: Bass Reeves), Oscar Nuñez (The Office), and Cheech Marin, the film follows the true story of a group of young Mexican American caddies in 1950s Texas who create their own golf course and compete against all-white teams, going on to win the 1957 Texas State High School Golf Championship.
The film premiered in March 2023 at SXSW where it won the Narrative Spotlight Audience Award and was picked up for distribution by Mucho Mas Media.
In addition to the trailer and release date news, Mucho Mas Media also announced that world championship boxer, and avid golfer, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be joining the film as an executive producer. “From the first time I saw The Long Game I was inspired to give whatever support was needed,” Canelo said in a statement. “I’m proud to be part of a team that is sharing the story of five Mexican-Americans with determination, drive, and passion to create their own journey. This film is an inspiration for the golf community and the world.”
The Latino-led sports drama will land in theatres April 12th.
