In what is his most ambitious film-to-date, Eli Roth helms the live action adaptation of the popular video game franchise BORDERLANDS, with a star-studded ensemble cast including Academy Award winners Cate Blanchett (TÁR) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once), as well as Kevin Hart (Jumanji), Edgar Ramirez (Dr. Death), Florian Munteanu (Marvel’s Shang-Chi), Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Gina Gershon (Thanksgiving) and Jack Black voicing the lovable robot Claptrap.
The explosive action-comedy follows Lilith (Blanchett), a mysterious bounty hunter who returns to her home planet of Pandora in search of the young daughter of Atlas (Ramirez), “the universe’s most powerful S.O.B.”. Lilith forms crew to accompany her on the dangerous mission, including seasoned mercenary Roland (Hart), the explosives-obsessed Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), Tina’s hulking protector Krieg (Munteanu), eccentric scientist Tannis (Curtis) and the cheeky-yet-loveable robot Claptrap (Black).
“Together, these unlikely heroes must battle an alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover one of Pandora’s most explosive secrets,” Lionsgate released in a statement. “The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.”
What seems to be in the vain of other science-fiction action-comedies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the film looks action-packed, funny and entertaining. We’ll keep our eyes peeled once the film is released toward the end of summer.
BORDERLANDS hits theatres August 9th 2024.
