Paige Mobley’s trajectory from small-town Michigan to the big screen in James Gunn’s Superman is anything but conventional. With a background in competitive dance, modeling, and musical theater, Mobley has navigated various corners of the entertainment industry—from appearing on America’s Next Top Model to launching her own production company. In a candid conversation, Mobley reflects on her earliest inspirations, the power of saying yes to unexpected opportunities, and how her breakout role in one of DC’s most anticipated films has changed everything.

A Love for Performance Sparked by the Stage

Growing up in Birmingham, Michigan, Mobley got an early start in the performing arts thanks to her mom enrolling her and her sister in competitive dance. But it wasn’t until she saw The Lion King on stage in Canada that the spark truly ignited.

“I think it was when I saw my first Broadway show… when I realized like, oh, I want to be on stage,” she said. “I started really heavily doing local community theater in Southeast Michigan throughout my entire childhood.”

Though her early ambitions were musical theater-focused, Mobley’s career has taken numerous turns. “I always thought for the longest time that I’d be a Broadway girl,” she admitted, “but I think I’ll return back. I’m so inspired… Nicole Scherzinger just won the Tony… maybe someday.”

From Reality TV to Real Opportunities

Mobley’s first significant break came on America’s Next Top Model, a gig that would unexpectedly serve as a springboard for the rest of her career. “When Top Model came along, it was like, oh wow, this is an amazing opportunity for me to be on set, to experience being on a television show, which is what I ultimately wanted to do,” she said.

Although the modeling world opened doors, it was the environment of the show that had the most lasting impact. “I give a lot of credit to America’s Next Top Model as my first job… I don’t think I would have ever been exposed to so many different aspects of the industry in one situation.”

She added, “There was so much happening on that set… hosting, modeling. I could see myself all over the place really, which was awesome for my first gig.”

The Value of Saying ‘Yes’ and Doing the Work

In addition to her acting and hosting career, Mobley teaches musical theater to students from kindergarten through high school. One of the biggest lessons she shares: get on set, even if it’s in the background.

“My very, very first opportunity… was doing background work in New York City,” she recalled. “I had never been on a movie set. I had never seen how TV and film was made.”

She urges aspiring actors to gain real-world experience early on. “The best knowledge that you can get for being on set is just being there and looking around. That education in and of itself was so valuable to me,” she said. “I tell all my students… do some background work before you get the agent, before you start auditioning. You have no idea what you don’t know.”

Even now, Mobley reflects on those early experiences with gratitude. “There is really something about being on set… just being quiet, opening your ears up, and listening and seeing everything… It’s totally invaluable.”

Producing, Pigeonholing, and the Power of Belief

Mobley’s love of storytelling has led her to create Long Meadow Productions, named after her grandparents’ home street. “They were my biggest fans… they unfortunately passed away before they were able to see me on television. So it’s their namesake,” she shared.

Producing allows her to stay grounded in her purpose. “I talk about teaching a lot because I feel like it grounds me… it kind of brings me back to my why,” she explained. “I want to create content that I think would be valuable on the big screen.”

Though she would love to act in projects she produces, she knows her limits. “If I were to be the lead in this film, and also writing, directing, and producing… it’s just like too much. So I think yes, but it’d have to be tiny.”

Mobley also spoke candidly about the pressure performers face to stick to one lane. “Early on in my career, I was really, really fixated on that… If I do this, does this mean that no one is ever gonna see me as an actor? Or a host? Or take me seriously?”

Eventually, she decided to let that go. “Why would I cut myself off from opportunities just because I’m afraid people will only see me as this?” she said. “In today’s day and age, social media has really been super helpful in allowing people to be more than one thing.”

Joining the DC Universe in Superman

Mobley’s excitement about joining the cast of James Gunn’s Superman is palpable. “A dream. Just a complete dream,” she said. “You audition relentlessly, you’re told no all the time. So to get a yes at this level… I couldn’t breathe.”

She praised the cast and crew, particularly the atmosphere created by Gunn. “James makes a family out of his sets and I got to experience that firsthand. It was amazing,” she said. “There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t recognize how big of a deal it is.”

Without giving away spoilers, Mobley hinted that her role grew during filming. “I feel really, really honored… to book a Star Wars, to book Marvel or DC… it doesn’t fall short on me how big of a deal it is. It means everything.”

As for her advice to young actors? “The harder you work, the luckier you get,” she said, a lesson passed down from her mother that’s proven true in her own journey.
