A24 has announced that its long-awaited comedy Problemista, directed, written by and starring Julio Torres, has received a theatrical release date. After its world premiere at SXSW in March 2023, the film was set for a wide release in August 2023, but was then indefinitely postponed due to the Hollywood labor strikes that prevented actors and writers from promoting their work.
The film is set to open in select theatres March 1 and in theatres everywhere March 22.
The announcement for the quirky, surrealist comedy is just as out-there as the film. See below for the announcement video with Torres and Swinton.
Torres stars as Alejandro, an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador living in New York City and working as an assistant to an “erratic art world outcast”, played by Tilda Swinton. When he’s left with a month to find a co-signer for his soon-to-expire work visa, his out-of-touch boss becomes his only hope to stay in the US and realize his dreams.
The cast includes Greta Lee, SZA, Larry Owens, Catalina Saavedra, and is narrated by Isabella Rossellini.
