For the final Actors With Issues of 2023, we are joined by the delightful star on the rise Diego Tinoco for a special ONE HOUR episode!. At just 26 years old, Diego has four seasons of On My Block under his belt as lead character Caesar and multiple feature film credits including the action-packed Knights of the Zodiac and the upcoming Bad Hombres where he stars as Felix, a young immigrant on the run, working opposite Luke Hemsworth, Thomas Jane, and Hemky Madera.
Diego gives such an insightful look into his life, career and hopes for the future, reflecting on hit time on On My Block and how, during its four year run, he learned to put more trust in himself and his abilities, and the importance of finding the techniques and methods of acting that work best for him, not only leading to a great performance, but also allowing him to enjoy his work in the process.
“At the end of the day, I want to put out the best possible work and have longevity in my career,” he shares. “I think it’s very important that everyone understands how they work and what’s best for their method. Take and pull from every method and see what works. This industry is about people. Nobody wants to work with an asshole 24/7 who’s slowing down production and giving everyone a headache. I want to do my work as an artist but also leave a mark on set as a good person, somebody who is a good time to be around.”
Diego also recalled an email he wrote for his agents and manager, thanking them for their work and sharing that he would no longer be pursuing a career as an actor. “I remember writing that and sending it to my best friend and he told me, ‘what the hell are you doing? You love acting. You’re great at it.’ I didn’t send the email and I then moved to LA with that friend and I’m really thankful to have that support. I wish I could say that I did this all by myself but I had such a great support team.”
Earlier this year, Tinoco launched The Actor’s Campus, an online acting studio aimed to help young actors from around the world get their careers started, providing guidance and resources he wished he had when he was starting out. He also talks about some of his upcoming projects, including the feature film Bad Hombres which will run in theaters and available to view on demand on January 26th, as well as a horror film he’s developing and producing.
Diego speaks with such honesty and openness, this will be an incredibly insightful and helpful conversation for any young actor to hear, whether they’re just starting out or are years into their journey and hope to achieve the successes Diego has. We could not have asked for a better way to cap off another great year of our podcast.
