After being scouted to work as an extra for a TV show, Frankie Loyal quickly found an interest in acting and began his career journey. His most prominent role to date is that of Hank ‘Tranq’ Loza in the hit FX series Mayans. Like many of the members of the titular Mayans motor club, his character began as a recurring role and went on to become a series regular for the final season.
The show is among the few that features a primarily Latin cast, and he is fully aware of the importance of representation that the series carries for the community. During our conversation, Loyal reflected on his 50-episode journey with the series, delved into his early years as an actor and talked about the many ups and downs production faced as early as the pilot through the series finale.
“We as a team went through so many forms of opposition from beginning to the end. We had family members who died, life happens but no matter how tough life gets, we just had to keep moving and pick yourself up by the bootstraps,” he shared. “I never wanted to quit, but you’re part of this big machine and you see what you’re made of.”
